BarCamp Nashville Recap
Posted by: cgallent in Website Conversion Tips, BarCamp NashvilleHere are the highlights from my presentation last Saturday at BarCamp Nashville.
The Conversion Funnel is a tool that can help you understand the following:
- How can I break down my visitors site behaviors.
- How can I understand all of the steps of my website’s success metric – sale, lead or registration.
- Understand that what you think you know about how your visitors interact with your site is unimportant.
- Understand that online marketing and website usability are now sciences – they’re not an art.
What are the goals of the Conversion Funnel?
- Break down your conversion process to determine where the opportunities for success are within your website.
- Understand why your site visitors don’t continue to the next step.
What does the Conversion Funnel look like?

At each step within the funnel, your visitors are going to make 1 of 3 decisions:
- Continue to the next step.
- Go to other parts of the site.
- Exit the site.
What works? How can I begin to optimize my site and take advantage of the Conversion Funnel?
- Stop guessing. Start knowing. Perfecting your Conversion Funnel is a lot of trial and error - you need as much information as possible.
- Invest in analytics.
- A/B test your registration/shopping cart steps & order. One little tweak can have a profound down-line impact.
- Eliminate ALL intra-registration, on-page links. No distractions on the pages will mean that your visitors will pay attention to the steps you’ve outlined for them.
- The offer will impact the results. If you’re going to catch fish - you have to bait the hook.
